About Our Class

The Impact of Radio on Our Lives

The Impact of Radio on Our Lives is a course at MiraCosta College in Oceanside that was created especially for older adults who have had the unique experience of living through the “Golden Age” of radio. The class gives students the opportunity to reflect on how the values, attitudes, and entertainment of their favorite radio shows shaped their lives. Students work together to read, rehearse, and perform some of the actual radio scripts that were broadcast during the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s. (INSTRUCTOR/DIRECTOR: Sherri Allen).

The Golden Age of Radio

The Golden Age of Radio lasted from the 1920s until the late 1950s and even into the early 1960s. And every day, shortly after sunset, America would pull her chair up to a little box and spend a delightful evening as, magically, fiction was made to come alive.
